The purpose of this study was to find the understanding of prolonged sound rule between bilingual language environment children and monolingual language environment children in the reading tasks and to make intervention program for improvement of bilingual language environment children in understanding of prolonged sound rule. The subjects awere 10 bilingual language environment children from 7 to 9 years old who have philippine mother and 10 monolingual language environment children from 7 to 9 years old who have korean mother. The experiment of understanding of prolonged sound rule was performed by presenting 40 independent words and 40 words in a sentence prolonged sound available to children and making them read these words. The following were the results of this experiment. First, in the independent words the score of bilingual language environment children group was lower significantly compared to score of monolingual language environment children group. Second, in the words within a sentence the score of bilingual language environment children group was also lower significantly compared to score of monolingual language environment children group. Considering the low understanding of prolonged sound rule of bilingual language environment children, a intervention program which could enable them to learn principles of prolonged sound rule must be invented.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of meta-cognitive reading strategies of students with cerebral palsy in reading and each meta-cognitive reading strategy(global reading strategies, problem-solving strategies, and supportive reading strategies) may relate to factual comprehension performance, inferential comprehension performance and performance of finding the topic idea. 24 elementary and middle and high school students with cerebral palsy in Seoul and Gyunggi-do were participated in this study. in order to investigate the use of meta-cognitive reading strategies, the MARIS(Meta-cognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies) was used and the reading comprehension performance was tested by reading comprehension test of Jung(2007). The results were as follows: First, the good readers group have a significantly higher use of global reading strategies and problem-solving strategies than poor reader group. Second, factual comprehension performance relates to global reading strategies and problem-solving strategies and inferential comprehension performance relates to global reading strategies. Based on the results of the study, it imply that the use if meta-cognitive reading strategies to the reading comprehension performance of students with cerebral palsy. And it also imply that to develop their reading comprehension performance, it is necessary to assess the use of meta-cognitive reading strategies overall and to develope appropriate instruction.

Art-based educational research is attempted to enhance perspectives pertaining to human activities and the ultimate goal for doing ABER is the betterment of educational policy and practice. This study aims at finding an aesthetic of disability by a theatre-sociological approach to The Birthday Party by Pinter. On the level of psychological archetypes, The Birthday Party is a metaphor for the process of growing up, of expulsion from the world of childhood. Meg is a mother-image seen from the viewpoint of an Oedipus complex. Stanley is reluctantto leave the warm nest, and it reveals his wish to stay at the childhood status without the danger of castration. Goldberg and McCann are understood as the projection of father-image, the metaphor of society. Employing Lacan’s terminology, Stanley remains in the ‘imaginary’ stage. The language used in the play is fragmental and illogical, since it is the language which fails to get into the ‘symbolic’, the world of the signifier and the order. The dialogue in this play contains many characteristics found in everyday conversation; frequent pauses and silence, repetitiveness, non sequiturs, mumbling, ambiguity, and the communication problems. Even aphasia is found in the subversive reaction of Stanley to the dominant language strategy of Goldberg and McCann. In the perspective of the postmodernism, such use of dialogues reflects the phase of the language deconstruction and the very essence of language itself. Pinter successfully recreates everyday language into an effective dramatic language and achieve an aesthetic of (language) disorder.

This study aims to investigate the perception and attitude of university students about hearing aid and cochlear implant, and to examine the variables related to their attitudes towards hearing aid and cochlear implant. The subjects were 114 university students, who were asked to see the pictures on wearing conditions and non-wearing conditions of hearing aid and cochlear implant and complete the adjective format scale . Also, they saw the pictures of hearing aid wearer and cochlear implant wearer, and completed the questionnaires about attitude for hearing aid and cochlear implant. Results show that university students show more negative perception about wearing conditions than non-wearing conditions on appearance, personality, and achievement for both hearing aid and cochlear implant. Attitude for cochlear implant was more negative than that for hearing aid on social stigma, viewpoint, and knowledge. As a result of analyzing related factors for attitude about hearing aid and cochlear implant, sex and wearing glasses or contact lenses were related to the social stigma for cochlear implant users. These results show that there exist ‘hearing aid effect’ and ‘cochlear implant effect’ in Korean university students, and their attitudes are more negative for cochlear implant than for hearing aid.

The application of Information and Communication Technology(ICT) is increasing to offer suitable educational service to students with disabilities. However, in reality, there has been two major problems in using ICT in special schools and classes. Those problems issued by teachers are lacks of the number of special education software and insufficient information of selecting special education software. To respond these problems, the purpose of this study was to develop the evaluation guide of educational software for students with disabilities. For this study, first, educational software evaluation tools and researches relating to software design；evaluation were investigated. Second, based on the investigating results, the preliminary evaluation guide of educational software was developed and the feasibility study of preliminary evaluation guide was evaluated by 10 special education teachers. The evaluation guide of educational software for students with disabilities consisted of 6 domains and 44 items. The 6 domains were basic information(5 items), contents organization(10 items), instructional design(12 items), technological appropriateness(9 items), utilization(4 items) and reflection of disability character(4 items).

In recent years, there has been a renewed and growing interest in ADHD. It has been claimed by some researchers that ADHD is not caused by neurological deficiency. The most interesting and persuasive argument is that ADHD is natural and valuable characteristics of human beings(‘Edison-Gene’), rather than the product of deficient gene. In this paper, I will firstly review and discuss these new claims, which provide an opportunity to rethink our perception of ADHD and Eugenics. In so doing, I propose that we need to go beyond biological essentialism in the understanding of ADHD. By employing a social constructivist approach, this study also revisits a range of issues surrounding therapeutic intervention and education for ADHD. This study claims that ADHD is a natural part of human beings, rather than something to be eradicated. It also suggests that educational support for ADHD should be conducted within the frame of human development and human rights.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Self-Regulated Strategy Development instruction on the writing ability of children with writing disabilities. Three fourth grade students identified with writing disabilities participated in the present study, which was conducted for 10 weeks. A multiple probe baseline design across the participants was employed, and the data were collected by baseline, intervention, generalization, and maintenance. The results indicated that Self-Regulated Strategy Development instruction had a positive impact on participants’ writing ability; the quality of writing, the length of writing, and the amount of writing time. The improved writing ability was partially generalized and maintained. In the future research, it is necessary to examine the effects of Self-Regulated Strategy Development model on the correctness of writing. Moreover, standardized assessment tool and criteria to measure the quality of writing need to be developed.

The purpose of this study was to examine the strategy characteristics in the domain of addition in children with intellectual disabilities. The analysis was comparison with strategies (strategy repertories, strategy frequencies, strategy accuracies) to solve 25 addition problems of calculation ability level matched normal children. Results indicated that children with intellectual disabilities significantly more used count-all strategy, but low on the frequency of the min strategy and decomposition/composition strategy. These results show that children with intellectual disabilities use different strategies to solve addition problems even if they have same addition calculation ability as normal children and implicate that intellectual disabled children with a weakness in the use effective addition strategies need an instruction which focused on development of addition strategies.

Korean history in special education can be broadly divided into four different ages, the quickening period (after 15th century), the beginning period (1894-1909), the transitional period (1910-1944), and the developing period (1945-1960’s). In this paper, four historically critical characters, the Great King Seojong, R. S. Hall, Duseong Park, and Youngsik Rhee, were selected as representatives of each above period in order to understand Korean history of special education. Therefore, this paper discussed the rationale for making the criterion of choosing periods and historical characters and then the characters’ overall lives and achievements that finally contributed to Korean special education. The Great King Seojong at the quickening period opened a road for Braille point in Korean language as he created the Korean alphabet “Hangul”, which was the foundation of Korean language. And the creation of the Korean alphabet contributed to the development of Korean fingerspelling for people with hearing impairments. Further, he provided divinatory education for the blind at Seounkwan(書雲觀), which was the government office in 1445 (27th year of Seojong in charge). Since the era of civilization and enlightenment had begun and thus Protestant missionaries brought modern education and Western medicine into Korea at the end of 19th century, R. S. Hall initiated special education of the modern age at Pyeongyang. Duseong Park created ‘The Korean Braille point’ for the blind in 1926 even when Japan tried to erase Korean language under the colonization of Japan. He also provided the Bible, which was made in Braille point of the Korean language for the blind and devoted his whole life to education for the blind by using the Korean Braille point. Youngsik Rhee started education for people with deaf and with blind at Daegu in 1946 when governmental supports and services for children with disabilities were totally absent. He established an institute of higher education for special education teacher and professional preparation in 1956. He also began education for children with mental retardation and with physical disabilities at the very first in Korea in 1966. From the findings of this study, I believe that these four people are historically invaluable characters for the Korean special education because they all were the pioneers who greatly contributed to the Korean special education.

The purpose of this study would present basic data to seek positive change in the society in general as well as the future special education, social welfare after considering the change degree of disability recognition through all classes of society, started from disability related law making period such as The Bill of Anti-Discrimination against the Handicapped People(April, 10, 2007) and The Special Education Law of Individuals with Disabilities and Like(May, 25, 2007). To achieve the goal, we have chosen the newspaper articles playing much a role in the mass media as an analysis object. This study is aimed at exploring the recognition of teachers on factors toward inclusive education, inclusive settings, and the efficiency of partial special class. We used questionnaires to achieve the goals of this study and we analysed 324 teachers’ responses to the questionnaires received. Through the results and discussions of this study, the conclusions of this study are as follows. First, teachers’ recognitions on factors toward inclusive education are different to the teachers’ groups such as special school, partial special class, and regular class. Second, there exist differences in teachers’ recognitions on partial special class and regular class as inclusive settings. Third, differences are teachers’ recognitions on the partial special class, according to disability fields, and to the teacher groups. And there exist differences in teachers’ recognitions on the efficiency of the content realm such as curriculum, discrimination, and benefit, to the teachers groups. Through the conclusions of this study, suggestions are as follows First, we need to explore parents’ recognitions with children with disabilities, related inclusive education. Second, continuously we need to improve curriculum and environment to meet uniqueness of children with disabilities.

This study was carried out to prove the nature of love which adults with intellectual disabilities had experienced through a phenomenological method. The questions of the study were followed: first, what do adults with intellectual disabilities perceive love in their heterosexual relationships? second, how do adults with intellectual disabilities express their love in their heterosexual relationships? third, what influences have love experienced by adults with intellectual disabilities in their heterosexual relationships on them? For this study, The major findings of the study are as follows: 1. adults with intellectual disabilities perceive love as criteria for making choice of partner, ①emotional intimacy, ②double-mindness of desire and resistance, ③acquisition to a normality and a self-disclosure, ④making boundary between sex and love. 2. adults with intellectual disabilities express their love by ① physical closeness, ②spoken language, gaze, facial expression, and gesture, ③caring and sharing. 3. adults with intellectual disabilities in love are appeared to be ① spontaneous maturity without being forced, ②out of loneness into happiness and anxiousness, ③pursuiting of privacy and of what is forbidden, ④overcoming ignorance and inexperience, ⑤expressing consciousness of his or her own sexual life, ⑥ revealing unstable morality and values of sexuality.

The purpose of this study is to review the recent literatures on technology-based interventions for secondary students with learning disabilities and to identify research trends and effective practices appeared in the recent research. The search procedures through the Web-database system were implemented to find the proper research. Finally, a total of 9 articles met the criteria and were included in this review. Each study was analyzed according to the categories of the population, setting, research design, and intervention. The results indicated that technology-based interventions for secondary students with learning disabilities involved hypermedia/hypertext program, computer tutorial, word processor, and mapping software. Effective and promising practices appeared in the review were hypermedia/ hypertext program in social studies and word processor in writing and science. Moreover, it was founded that the technology productivity tool improved positive attitude and preference of the students. Implications and recommendations for future research based on the results were suggested.

This study is the second one in sequence of studies regarding development of service center for students with disabilities in higher education institution. In order to investigate the reality of current supporting program, there were total 207 universities and colleges surveyed in this study. Researchers divided 207 universities with two groups such as 30 universities with an independent organization as one group and 177 universities with only supporting office as the other group to test differences between groups on significant variables. The major results from this study were as followings: 1) Many differences in plan and operation found between groups except the need of cooperation with external institution relating to employment, 2) universities with only supporting office were insufficient in supporting evaluation, living, employment, and scholarship than those services from universities with an independent organization.

Studies of the correlation between difficulties in reading at early stages among children with learning disabilities and their ability in phonological awareness have been conducted vigorously and shown that phonemic awareness, the subarea of phonological awareness is an essential component of reading instruction. In domestic settings, there is increasing interest in the effects of teaching phonological awareness on reading Hangeul(Korean alphabets). However largely studies are mainly focused on some activities regarding phonological awareness among children with reading disabilities and also the findings are not widely utilized in reading-teaching. This study lays its purpose on finding out the effects of stepwise training programs regarding phonological awareness on word recognition among 3 children with learning disabilities in reading and writing. As a result, it was found that phonological awareness training has effects on improving word recognition skill among children with learning disabilities, and through the training types of word recognition errors have been changed. Accordingly it is suggested that systematic phonological awareness training should be provided prior to teaching how to read at early stages.

The purpose of this study is to present the direction of improvement on the disabilities human rights education in the elementary social studies. For this purpose, I reviewed about relation to social studies and disabilities human rights education, and analyzed the problems of social studies textbooks and instruction. The results of analysis on textbooks and instruction are as follows. First, disabilities human rights contents in textbooks were presented partially on specific grade, did not coincide with characteristic of social studies, and various views about human rights was lacked. Also, it was described disabilities human rights at a view of protection, benefits and national effort. Second, the classroom instruction have problems as value injection about human rights respect, absence of substantial participation of students and insufficient of process that deal with disabilities problem. In basis of these results I proposed the direction of improvement as follows. First, it has to presented gradually instances of violation of disabilities human rights in all grade level and described disabilities human rights in side called right and social mechanism associated with problem occurrence that is violation. Second, it has to designed instruction as the decision making process for students’ various thinking and judgment, and introduced inquire process according to child’s developmental stage so that can understand structurally occurrence mechanism of disabilities human rights problem.

The purpose of this study is to compare the study skills level of children with mild disabilities and without disabilities. The subjects of this study are 16 children mild disabilities and 24 children without disabilities. The results from this study are as follow: First, a statistically significant difference is found in the total score of the study skills between children with mild disabilities and without disabilities. Second, statistically significant differences are found in the levels of the subarea of study skills(self-management, classroom participation, assignment solving, test-taking, information processing) between children with mild disabilities and without disabilities.

The present study purposed to suggest a plan for curriculum individualization using individualized education program in order to remove discrepancies betweencommon classes and teaching of individualized education program for disabled students. For this, this study suggested how to make and execute teaching plans for common classes by reflecting individualized education program, the curricularfunctions of individualized education plans, the relation between individualized education program and curriculum individualization. The results of this study are as follows. First, individualized education program play the functions of instrumental means that induce disabled students to participate in class curriculums and help them make practical progress in learning.Second, individualized education program should be developed based on the common curriculums of class, and the goals of individualized education program should be included in integrated class teaching plans. Third, in order to develop integrated instructional plan, the common curriculum framework of class including disabled student should be developed, and the current performance of disabled students should be evaluated based on the framework and reflected in the annual education plan of the class. In addition, the long.term and short.term goals of education for disabled student should be set based on the annual education plan, and unit teaching plan based on the annual education plan should be made, reflecting the long.term and short.term goals for disabled students. Lastly, integrated instructional plan including class plan for disabled student should be made by individualizing the unit teaching plan. Fourth, individualized instruction based on individualized education program should provide many opportunities for interaction between teachers and class members. For this, the instruction should consider not only the characteristics of learners but also other factors such as teachers, teaching materials and environment.

It has been indicated that children’s altruistic behaviors are very desirable ones. It has also been accepted that children’s considerate behaviors towards their parents are really adaptable. However evidence is increasingly reported that when someone’s internal desires are suppressed it can cause profound mental difficulties. Therefore this study tries to see the effects of parentification of children on psychopathology. Subjects consist of 314 university freshmen. They are divided normal population(236) and clinical population(78) by researchers and given MMPI test. Study instrument is originally devised by Jurkovic & Thirkield(1999)’s FRS-A(Filial Royalty Scoring-Adult) and revised by Kang Ji-Hee(2008) and Kim YoungHwan(1989) respectively. Correlation Multiple Linear Regression is employed toexplore the effect of the parentification(instrumental, emotional, unfairness) of children on psychopathology. The results are as follows. First, the study shows that no statistical significance is found in the normal group neurotically and psychopathically. Second, unfairness have an effect on children’s psychopathic aspects in the clinical population. It shows a significant effect by Pa, Sc Scale in particular. This study seems to provide the foundation for the adaptive parent-child role because the parentification of children has an impact on the psychosis trait.

The article aims at describing on teacher’s ethics towards student with special educational needs, based on the ethical philosophies of Husserl and Levinas. More specific aims are as followed: First, the basic theories on Husserl’s ethics is studied, and some possibilities of building up teacher’s ethic is described in the view of Husserl’s Ethics. Second, the basic theories on Levinas’ ethics is studied, and some possibilities of building up teacher’s ethic is described in the view of Levinas’ Ethics. Third, the special features of Husserl’s and Levinas’ ethics is summarized, and based on them, teacher’s responsibilities of education for student with special educational needs are discussed. The reason, why the ethics is selected as theme of the article is, that because building up teacher’s ethics might be the best and the fastest way of the reducing negative effectives in our educational realities, and actualizing of “right” inclusion it self. That is, teacher’s ethics towards students with special educational needs should play a role as one of best practical and powerful energies, on which guarantee not only the human rights of student with special educational needs, but also realizes efficient inclusion in our school system.

The current primary science textbooks were brailled from the original printed textbook. The verbal expressions in textbooks can be easily brailled by theregulation of braille translation, but the illustrations such as pictures, photographies,diagrams, and graphs are not easily brailled, and generally omitted in braille textbooks. We investigated the ratio of braille translation of illustration by the kinds, bythe role, and by the questioning. And we also investigated the tendency during the braille translation qualitatively. We found that the higher proportion of illustrations is brailled in the textbook for higher grade and that the 11.1% of illustrations in printed textbooks are brailled as a whole. 8.1% of the photographs and 3.0% of illustrations for attracting students’ motivation in the printed textbooks are brailled. 39.2% of illustrations used in questioning in the textbooks are brailled. The result of qualitative analysis is that the braille translation was performed strictly in pursuit of the same formation with the printed textbook rather than the same contents.

This study is analyzed Computer Keyboard Korean letter cording characteristics and cording time, which is a final consonant on the end of a Korean orthographic syllable or not in the 2 or 3 syllables, by children with physical disabilities. Furthermore we searched a corelation between cording error characteristics and cording time according to the location of a final consonant. The results of this study were as follows; First, it was a high cording correct rate that both existed a final consonant, and that the next one did the front letter with a final consonant in the 2 syllables. In the case of 3 syllables, it was high that the cording error rate was both all of them and the last letter without a final consonant in a word.Second, it took the shortest time to cord for both of them without a final consonant , but that did the longest time to cord for both of them with a final consonant in the 2 syllables. However there was no meaningful difference statistically, We found that there was not big difference of cording time according to the location of a final consonant in the 2 syllables. In the case of 3 syllables, it took the highest time to cord the letter without final consonant and the middle letter without final consonant was the lowest one. Third, there was the negative corelation between cording error characteristics and cording time regardless with or without a final consonant and the location of it in the 2 syllables, but didn’t mean statistical difference. there was negative the corelation between cording error characteristics and cording time regardless the location of a final consonant in the 3 syllables.
