The special education field is using diverse technology to provide quality educational services to students with disabilities. To make such technology approach effective in improving the learning and living of students with disabilities, both general technology and assistive technology should be considered, and technology devices and services should be determined and used through appropriate systems and methods. Since assistive technology devices and services, in particular, have a crucial influence on overall areas of students with disabilities such as education, daily lives, and occupational activities, they should be selected and provided in accordance with appropriate systems and strategies in comprehensive consideration of needs and environments of students with disabilities. Against such backdrop, this research focused on the research and development a delivery system model designed to provide appropriate assistive technology to students with disabilities in the special education school. The specific purpose of this research is as follows : First, the research aim to research and analysis previous models and studies about assistive technology delivery to provide appropriate assistive technology Second, the research aim to survey the experience and requirement of assistive technology devices and services were surveyed targeting 40 special teachers experienced in using assistive technology, 30 parents. Based on the result of these surveys, presented was a direction for the development of delivery system for special schools to provide appropriate assistive technology devices and services to students with disabilities. Third, the research aims to develop an assistive technology delivery system designed to systematically provide assistive technology to students with disabilities.

The purpose of this paper was to propose the strategies for proactively changing the riryo education system in Korea. The first section reviewed the riryo education system in Japan and Korea, respectively. The next section identified the major problems with the current system in riryo education, such as high school curriculum inappropriate for career guidance of students with visual impairments, riryo content unmatched with the academic readiness of such students, challenges in the guidance of adult students, low level in the academic degrees of masseurs, inadequate educational resources in massage training centers, and the absence of research and higher education in the area of riryo. The following section proposed three strategies for restructuring the riryo education system as follows: (1) implementing the general track of curriculum in high school; (2) training masseurs and acupuncturists at the riryo department in the level of high school; and (3) establishing a higher education institution in the area of riryo.

Estimation of premorbid intelligence is often required in the context of testing adults as well as children. However, no prior study has yet developed a method of estimating premorbid intelligence in children. The aim of the present study was to develop a method of estimating premorbid intelligence based on school records. With this aim, we administered KEDI-WISC to 130 children. There was a significant correlation (.725) between FIQ and school grade. Based on this correlation, we developed two methods of estimating children``s premorbid intelligence. First, we developed a regression formula in which school grade is the predictor and FIQ is the predicted variable. With this regression method, the proportion of the sample in which the estimation error was ≤±5, ≤±10, and ≤±15 was 42%, 66%, and 86%, respectively. Second, we developed an estimation method using the average FIQ of children whose school grades are in the comparable range. With this categorization method, the proportion of the sample in which the estimation error was ≤±5, ≤±10, and ≤±15 was 40%, 71%, and 88%, respectively. Discussion includes how much difference between predicted premorbid FIQ and postmorbid FIQ is required to diagnose ``intelligence decline``.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of anti-biased picture book activities on acceptance of kindergarten-age children with disabilities. One hundred kindergarten children participated in this study. The children were enrolled in 2 kindergartens in C and K cities. Of the sample of 100, 44 were boys and 56 were girls. All subjects were tested on the Acceptance Scale of Kindergarteners (ASK). The 18-item, 3-point scale requires children to respond "yes", "no" or "maybe" to questions that reflect acceptance and nonacceptance of persons with disabilities or persons who are different. The intervention consisted of the following components: storytime, guided discussions, structured play and so on. Kindergarten participants received information about children with disabilities during a regular story period. All of books had a story content directly related to a child with a disability. After the 6-week intervention, children participating in the intervention group reported increased acceptance. The children reported greater acceptance of children with disabilities than did children in the control group. A significant difference as found in the ASK scores between the two groups. The subjects`` gender and age do not contribute significantly to the acceptance of children with disabilities. The successful implementation of intervention promotes better understanding and acceptance of children with disabilities. Additional research is needed to establish the content and components of intervention for positive changes in levels of acceptance.

The purpose of this study is to determine the attitudes for integration education and the intimacy with disabled students of Nondisabled students influenced by disabled students. For such purpose, 477 students of 15 classes from 5 elementary schools located in Daegu Metropolitan City were selected as the object of this study. Integrated Attitudes was measured through an investigation equipment by Oh Won-Seok and Seo-Yeong Ran which adapted and modified a testing document called Inclusion of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing Inventory (ISDHH) invented by Hsin-Ling Hung(2005). The result indicated that the factors which influence the Attitudes of nondisabled students regarding integration with disabled students are the type of injury, the gender and the cleanness of the disabled student. The factors which do not influence the above are interests of the disabled student``s parents, economic level of the family and the learning ability of the disabled student.

The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of scribbling activities program on the effectance motivation and outerdirectedness of mentally retarded children. For the purpose, this researcher raised the following research questions. What effects does scribbling activities program on the outerdirectedness and effectance motivation of mentally retarded children ? To get answers to these questions, the researcher sampled 6 mentally retarded children(3 female, 3 male) from inclusive classes of an elementary school located in Busan and experimentally treated them using a one-group pretest-posttest design. effectance motivation Test and Outerdirectedness Test were used as devices of the pre- and post-tests. For the experimental treatment, total 16 activities of scribbling were applied for 8 weeks with 2 session a week based. Results of the study can be summarized as follows. The effectance motivation of the mentally retarded children was measured using personality questionaire and puzzle game. It was found significantly different when measured with EZPQ, but not when measured with peg game. And Personality questionaire and sticker game were used to measure outerdirectedness. The outerdirectedness of the subjects were found significantly different when measured with personality questionaire, but not when evaluated with sticker game.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of peer tutoring on reading fluency of students with reading difficulties. For this study, thirty-five elementary students in grade 3(tutor 12, tutee 12, and control group 11) were participated and assigned to the two treatment conditions. Experimental group was received peer tutoring third times a week for 12 weeks and tested once one week. But control group and tutors was only tested once one week. The collected data was analyzed by t-test and HLM(Hierarchical Linear Model). The Results of this study were as following: Firstly, tutee which was received peer tutoring showed more higher achievement and faster growth rates on reading than control group. Secondly, tutor improved reading achievement and showed faster growth rates on reading. In conclusion, Peer-tutoring is an effective teaching method to enhance reading fluency of students with reading difficulties.

This study is aimed at analyzing the effect for the improved program of disability awareness on the basis of changes in attitudes of non-disabled peers toward disabled ones of 334 non-disabled primary school students in Jinju city, Kyeongnam, Korea and thereby discussing the implied direction for the improved program. The results of this study are as follows: First, the program was found to have an effect so that the attitudes toward their disabled peers of the normal students changed positively. Second, there was no change in the attitudes toward their disabled peers by grade after the implementation of the program. This is mainly because the program was designed for higher graders, confined to 5th and 6th graders, and thus it was difficult to identify the difference by grade on account of slight difference between the two groups of higher grade. Third, there was a change in the attitudes toward their disabled peers by gender after the implementation of the program. Fourth, after the implementation of the program, there was a change in the attitudes toward their disabled peers depending on whether their school has a special class or not. The score of acceptance attitude toward their disabled peers of non-disabled students who enter a normal primary school with a special class was found higher than that of non-disabled students who enter a normal primary school without special classes.

This study was aimed to reveal effects of sensory integration training program on improving attention span of children with mental retardation. To achieve this goals of this study, 20 children with mental retardation were divided int two groups, 10 member experimental group and 10 member control group. In this study, pretest-posttest control group design was used and several t-tests were conducted to examine the effects of experimental condition between two groups. Superlab Pro 10.5 was used to measure selective attention and persist attention span. This study found that sensory integration training is not effective to improve persistent attention of children with mental retardation, but effective for selective attention.

This study examines the applicability of a vocational training as part of rehabilitation program. Groups of inpatients with schizophrenia in a mental health unit received the vocational rehabilitation training program to see its effects on their interpersonal relationships and stress coping methods. The study was designed with nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design. The research was conducted from 1st of January to 31st of March in 2006. The participants are recruited from inpatients of Bugok National Hospital in Kyoung-nam and divided into two groups, the experimental group(n=18) and the control group(n=18). For the method, 40 randomly selected inpatients were tested with measurements for the interpersonal relationship and stress coping methods after examining the validity of these measurements. The results are analyzed using SPSS. In order to exam equivalence, χ2-test was used. T-test and ANOVA are used to test equivalence of dependent variables between the experimental group and the control group and differences between before and after the intervention. The summary of the results are: Firstly, the vocational rehabilitation program is effective to improve the interpersonal relationship in people with mental disorder. Secondly, the vocational rehabilitation program is effective for the active stress coping methods in people with mental disorder.

The present study identified nonsymbolic communication characteristics and the related factors of three young children with severe cerebral palsy using the Total Assessment Working Model(TAWM), a comprehensive assessment tool. With the results of the TAWM, a communication partner intervention program that the children``s primary communication partners played a role of communication facilitator was designed and employed in order to see if the program was effective for the children to acquire communication skills. The study was consisted of three phases. The first phase was a comprehensive assessment process for establishing an adequate and efficient nonsymbolic communication intervention plan based on the results of the TAWM. The second phase was the communication partners`` intervention on the target behaviors of the children. The last phase was to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. In the assessment phase, the children``s qualitative and quantitative communication characteristics were identified through observations of interaction between the children and their communication partners, and the communication partners were interviewed. results of the study were as follows: First, the TAWM for nonsymbolic communication assessment was effective to observe the interactions between the children and their communication partners both in natural contexts and in structured environments, and to identify the characteristics of nonsymbolic communication skills of children with severe cerebral palsy and other environmental factors. Second, the six evaluation factors(i.e., characteristics of the current communication skills between the children and their communication partners, target behaviors, physical movement skills, intellectual capacities, environmental factors, communication partner factors) of the TAWM for establishing the individual target behaviors of the children and for designing communication partner``s intervention strategies were proven to be adequate as essential factors and led to establish an adequate communication intervention plan.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the intellectual characteristics of children with mental retardation based on multiple intelligence. The subjects were 26 children with mental retardation in elementary school students of third through fifth grade in special classes within regular schools. Their multiple intelligence(MI) were measured by standardized Korean Performance-based Multiple Intelligence Test for Early Children(hereafter, PMIT-E). The major results of this study were as follows; First, the ability test of PMIT-E were many score differences between the general children group and mental retardation group in the areas of linguistic and logical-mathematical. But, the preference test of PMIT-E were a little difference between the general children group and mental retardation group in the most areas. Second, there were the strength and the weakness of intelligences in the profile of MI of children with mental retardation. Scores in the private multiple intelligence distributed widely. Also, in analyzing MI of children with mental retardation, the strength of intelligence is Naturalist intelligence and Bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, and the weaknesses of intelligence were Linguistic intelligence and Logical-mathematical intelligence. Third, there were statistical differences of multiple intelligence profiles from the mean of the Linguistic intelligence, Logical-mathematical intelligence, Naturalist intelligence, Interpersonal intelligence between both groups on intelligence of children with mental retardation. The results of this study have many implications for teaching children with mental retardation.

To promote students with developmental disabilities self-determination abilities which is one of transition education results should be enhanced psychological empowerment and self-realization. Self-awareness and self-knowledge should be promoted prior to enhance psychological empowerment and self-realization. Therefore, the purposes of this study are as follows; First, is to describe development of self-knowledge and self-understanding of children with developmental disabilities. Second, is to reveal strategies to promote children with developmental disabilities self-awareness and disability-awareness. Above mentioned help educators and professionals understand educational implication on self-knowledge and self-understanding as well as help them understand systematic teaching process presented for promoting self-determination through disability-awareness and self-awareness, self-awareness promotion contents through career educational approach, and contents related to self-determination evaluation tool.

Through the various in-depth interviews with current deaf school teachers in Daegu and Ulsan area, this research tried to analyze how the schools are operating on the nation``s common basic educational curriculum and find the way to improve the controversial point to create and suggest the correct way of managed assessment and prepare the desirable scheme to eliminate the problems. Conclusions from the result are following. For the proper and correct way for the achievement evaluation, various evaluating methods and questionnaires are indispensable, and efforts from instructors to professionalize the tasks with continuous study and trainings are required. To improve the instructors and studies, respect the characteristics and intractability of each student, fixed management assessment is necessary.

The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the relationship between ubiquitous, new paradigm of IT and lifelong education, new paradigm of education for the realization of lifelong learning society. To carry out this purpose, the definition, specific character, tendency were analyzed according to literatures. And finally proposed the special education``s problems to be solved. The conclusions are as follows. First, ubiquitous is a new information communication environment which will be able to connect in the network freely irrespective of time, space and machinery. Second, lifelong education is a new educational network which generally integrates and re-composes a whole life and social educational activity. Third, ubiquitous characters such as ubiquity and intelligence or autonomous characteristic have the value as the tool for the lifelong education. Fourth, the next problems must be solved in special education category ; identity characteristic establishment, a vocational education reinforcement and activity of the employment, cultivation of information management capacity, multidisciplinary approach for lifelong education and ubiquitous, demonstrate application assertion of ubiquitous technology in special education.
