The purpose of this study was to examine the development process of the national representative of the Republic of Korea based on the dictation of the participants who have lived the lives of the disabled national delegates, the activities of the international conventions, and the interest of each association, government and people. I could get the same conclusion. First, participants who were formerly non-disabled people suffered great distress and difficulties in their lives and encountered sports in the process of overcoming them. Second, each sport I encountered in their lives changed their lives, overcoming themselves, and participating in international competitions on behalf of the Republic of Korea. Third, the interest of the associations, governments and citizens of each sport has been quite passive, but I feel that interest has been improved with the launch of the Disabled Sports Council recently. The development of Korean physical education is not only for non - disabled people but also for the disabled athletes.

The purposes of this research were to examine the effects of positive behavior intervention and support on the problem, class participation behaviors of a student with developmental disability. Subjects of this research were a student with developmental disability who belong to H special school in Jeollanam-do. For this study, multiple probe baseline across Behaviors design was applied. Also For confirmation of the subject’s behavior function and development of mediation program, functional behavior assessment was applied. Intervention was multicomponent thing which consists of antecedent, replacement behavior, subsequent outcome. For data acquisition, videos were taken as each session. And for material analysis, using partial-interval recording, The incidence of action was measured. Also variation of each session was presented as graphs. The outcome of this study was as follows. First, positive behavior intervention and support were efficient in decreasing problem behaviors of students with developmental disability. Second, those were efficient in increasing class participation behaviors of students with developmental disability. Third, class participation behaviors and decreased problem behaviors were maintained. In conclusion, positive behavior intervention and support are efficient for target behavior and class participation behaviors of students with developmental disability.

The purpose of this study was to compare the balance and gait of cerebral palsy, Down syndrome children and typically developing children. The subjects were 20 children with cerebral palsy, 16 children with down syndrome, 20 children with typically developing, 56 children participated in studies. One Leg Test, Romberg’s test(eye open/eye close), Sharpened Romberg’s test(eye open/eye close), Functional reaching test, and GAIRTRite were used for this study in order to measure children’s balance ability and gait ability. One leg standing, Romberg’s test, sharpened Romberg’s test of static balance showed significant differences among three groups(p<.05). functional reaching test of dynamic balance showed significant differences among three groups(p<.05). Velocity, cadence of temporal gait parameters and step length, stride length, step width of spatial gait parameters showed significant differences among three groups(p<.05). The results showed that there were a significant difference in balance and gait among the three groups, and higher balance and gait function in order of typically developing children, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome children.

The object of this study is to figure out actual condition of operating dormitories at the 12 nationwide schools for the visually impaired. 148 students from middle, high school, and also vocational training course, who are currently living in the dormitories were asked to answer a questionnaire. Variables in the questionnaire were designed by whether the participants are male or female, what school grade they are in, how is individual vision level, and when their vision had been lost. Sub-categories for the research consist of three parts; life management, educational programs, and facilities of the dormitory. Students’ answers to a total of 11 questions from the three parts were cross analyzed to bring the results looked for and they are as follows. First, in the life management section, all the students, regardless of whether they are middle schoolers, high schoolers, or in the vocational training course, said they decided to live in the dormitory because it was too hard to commute from their home. Also, the most number of students answered that their condition has improved now because they spent less time to commute. On the other hand, when asked how much they are satisfied with the dormitory staffs, both groups of low vision students and the blind ones all choose ‘more than normal’. Second, at the educational programs section, both group of students with congenital and acquired visual impairments were satisfied “more than normal” with the educational programs run in the dormitories. Meanwhile, when they were asked about how many hours they daily spent for self-studying in the dormitory, both male and female in middle, high school, and vocational training classes all said “less than one hour”. About the regulations and discipline of the dormitory, both male and female, whether they have congenital or acquired visual impairments, mostly checked “more than normal” for their satisfaction level. Third, in the facilities, most students said the best thing they liked was the bed room. Anyway, most of them said the students’ lounge didn’t meet their expectation. Based on the findings above, precedent studies were retrieved and discussed together to come up with further study proposal.

The purpose of this study was to set up a specific action plan from the scene of inclusive education, and to suggest a new direction of inclusive education. The action research was conducted to accomplish the purpose of the study. We specifically applied a program used action learning to find out how members of the inclusive education should cooperate and execute. The participants for this study were 8 action learning coaches, 10 special education teachers, and 10 general education teachers. They participated in an action learning program to find out how to implement the inclusive education cooperatively throughout seven times circulation of planning, implementing and reflecting. As a result, the participants who had different view of inclusive education were able to develop a specific practical knowledge in the process of discussing about action plan. The action learning program played an important role to extend a prospect of inclusive education by putting different perspectives of participants together and exploring the application possibilities to the inclusive education field.

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a video modeling strategy/intervention for students with autism spectrum disorders(ASD) using a meta analytic approach. Upon the use of inclusion/exclusion criteria to locate a proper set of studies to be used in meta analysis, a total of 14 domestic studies were yielded. Dependent variables included: academic skills, living skills, communication skills, emotional/behavioral skills, and vocational skills. As a way to look into the effects of moderators(i.e., grade, gender, intervention time, intervention session, types of video modeling, types of ASD, and ASD severity), Meta-ANOVA and Meta-regression were applied. Results showed that (a) the mean effect size calculated out of 18 effect sizes using a fixed effect model was Tau-U = .918(p = .000); (b) neither heterogeneity nor inconsistencies were found across studies; and (c) there were no significant moderator effects found. Based on the results, as well as the publication bias report, the effects of video modeling intervention and the possibility of using it in classrooms for students with ASD were discussed.

The purpose of this paper is to propose a future direction of the development of Korean Sign Language Dictionary. This proposal, when followed, will help the dictionary capture features of Korean Sign Language as a natural language more adequately. The proposal deals with two major aspects of sign language dictionaries: vocabulary items and lexical information. First, we propose that an appropriate change take place in the ways in which sign language vocabularies are collected, selected and represented. This change involves moving from Korean-centeredness to Korean Sign Language-centeredness in the approach to dictionary making at large. This change also involves a proper recognition of the gloss of each vocabulary entry as a mere reference to the entry. Secondly, we propose that lexical information properly include semantic, syntactic and pragmatic information. These lexical information can be effectively provided not only by definition statements but also well thought-out example sentences. Syntactic information, in particular, must address the grammatical features unique to a sign language. These unique features include category information, locational and directional information and non-manual features. In order for us to engage in an adequate collection of these unique features, a corpus-based data collection is a must. If and when these proposals are implemented thoroughly and faithfully, the future sign language dictionary is believed to contribute to solidifying the identity of Korean Sign Language as a natural language independent from Korean.

Although courtesy stigma is a key concept for us to understand the lives and caregiving experiences of parents of disabled children, there is no substantial research on that theme in Korea. This study aimed at providing the research base for the future relating studies through examining past studies on courtesy stigma in parents of disabled children. To achieve the purpose, this study adopted a literature review of studies examining courtesy stigma in parents of disabled children. An electronic search of studies published between 1988 and 2017, using five databases was conducted. Twenty-seven papers were included in the review. There included all the samples of 1,877 parents of children with 8 respective kinds of disabilities coming from 8 countries in the studies. The studies were characterized as qualitative, cross-sectional, and mixed in study design and divided into individualistic approaches and socio-cultural approaches in theoretical orientation. Four themes emerging from the results indicated that parents of disabled children experienced courtesy stigma in various ways, and used different strategies to cope with the stigmatizing situations. Also, courtesy stigma was found out to have a negative effect on some psychological and behavioral aspects of parents’ lives, and to be influenced by some individual and social factors. Past studies contribute to extend the scope of understandings on courtesy stigma, but have 1imitations in generalizability coming from sampling method and valid measuring instruments. Future research needs to be oriented to resolve these problems, and to find out what the current state and specific features regarding courtesy stigma are in Korea.

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether or not job satisfaction and self-esteem have a mediating effect on the empowerment and quality of life of child care teachers for young children with special needs. A total of 412 child care teachers for young children with special needs participated in this research. The validity of investigative tools was verified using exploratory factor analysis and reliability, while mediating effect was verified using PROCESS macro by Hayes. Empowerment, job satisfaction, self-esteem, and quality of life tools were proven valid with 60% of more explained by factors, and showed consistent reliability between items. Results showed that empowerment indeed had a mediating effect on the quality of life through job satisfaction. Self-esteem did not have any significant impact on the quality of life, meaning that it did not have any mediating effects. Also, results indicated no impact on the quality of life by empowerment and job satisfaction. In conclusion, this study discussed the self-esteem and quality of life among child care teachers for young children with special needs, and recommended the need for research which looks into influence factors centered on self-esteem moving forward.

The purpose of this study is to investigate about actual operation practice of general middle and high school science class through principle and guidelines of universal design for learning(UDL). For this purpose, we applied 'Korean instruction analysis checklist based on universal design for learning' to 36 science teachers in general middle and high schools. As a analysis result of the questionnaire, it was found that science teachers are performing UDL based science class of an average score 2.24(perfect score : three points). In particular, Principle I(representation) of the three principles and Guideline 2(provide options for language, mathematical expressions, and symbols) of the nine guidelines were the highest. As a result of the comparison between the teachers' background factors, the guidelines and the principles showing significant differences according to the gender of the teachers were Guideline 6(provide options for executive functions). In the case of age, there were significant differences in Guideline 4(provide options for physical action) and Guideline 6(provide options for executive functions), and Guideline 7(provide options for recruiting interest). Significant differences were found in Guideline 4(provide options for physical action), Guideline 6(provide options for executive functions), Guideline 7(provide options for recruiting interest), and Guideline 8(provide options for sustaining effort and persistence) in the final academic field, and Guideline 4(provide options for physical action) and Guideline 7(provide options for recruiting interest) showed significant differences in the area of educational experience. Guideline 8(provide options for sustaining effort and persistence) showed a significant difference in school-level areas. In the scale of the school city, the difference was found in Guideline 4(provide options for physical action), Guideline 5(provide options for expression and communication), Guideline 9(provide options for self-regulation) and Principle Ⅱ(action and expression). The results of this study were compared with the results of the previous research, and the approach for activating UDL-based science education was suggested as a follow-up study.

The purpose of this study was to review the recent domestic literature on applying virtual reality(VR) based educations for students with disabilities and to identify research trends and practical implications. The search procedures through the database system were implemented to find the proper research published from 2000 to 2017 and a total of 28 studies were selected. The results identified that most of subjects were elementary school-age students and were students with intellectual disabilities or physical disabilities. Also between-group design was mostly implemented and most of data collection methods was behavioral observation. Types of VR technology were divided into immersive, non-immersive, and third-person VR. The results of review indicated that most of studies used the third person VR type. Additionally, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional effects were identified as the effectiveness of intervention using VR technology. Furthermore, considerations to apply virtual reality based educational programs for students with disabilities were suggested.

In the changed educational scene, the diversity-based approach such as the plurality of general students, students with disabilities, and students from multi-cultural families should be considered, not the general approach for the average student. When the necessity of applying UDL, which is based on generality and is an approach considering specificity, is emphasized, integrated education can reach the stage of social inclusion beyond the stage of teaching inclusion. Therefore, this study first examines why classroom classes should be universal through the current status of inclusion education in Korea, and then focuses on the status of UDL and reading education improvement research for guaranteeing the right of all students to learn It included the contents of inclusion education and UDL through related statistics and literature review. We discussed the possibility of applying the reality through introducing the ‘K-PAL’ model and the ‘Reading Guidance Program Big Data System’ construction model under development. The contents presented through such a series of processes were reaffirmed that it is a very important process for establishing the identity of Korean special education.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the reading fluency program on literacy (reading and writing) and comprehension of stuttering children. The subjects were two stuttering children in the 1st grade of elementary school who don’t have any other disabilities or cognitive deficits. In the reading fluency program, 30 fairy tale books and four target words per book were selected with consideration for the age and interest of the children. It consists of 15 sessions in total while 2 fairy tale books per session and 1~2 sessions of 40 minutes per week were applied to the program. To measure the effectiveness of the reading fluency program, pre-post test was conducted in terms of reading, writing and comprehension. First, the reading fluency program improved reading and writing skills of stuttering children. Second, the reading fluency program improved their comprehension. Therefore, the results of this study suggest that repeated reading using materials familiar to stuttering children influences positively on their reading, writing and comprehension improvements.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural relations among social relationships, self-esteem, resilience and school life adaptation which are expected to influence on school life of middle and high school students with intellectual disabilities. For this, a questionnaire targeting 375 mentally-handicapped middle and high school students in three cities and provinces was carried out, and the collected questionnaire data was used for the basic statistics analysis and the structure equation modeling analysis. The result showed that social relationships had a positive influence on self-esteem and resilience, and self-esteem and resilience did so on school life adaptation. In terms of the degree of influence on each course, the course of social relationships’ influencing on resilience was the highest, and followed by the one of resilience’s influencing on school life adaptation, the one of self-esteem’s influencing on school life adaptation and the one of social relationships’ influencing on self-esteem. With regard to the structural relations by class, there was a significant difference in all the courses except the one of social relationships’ influencing on self-esteem. In terms of the structural relations by arrangement type, all the courses showed a significant difference. This study suggested a proposal for a follow-up study based on this result and with discussion.
