This research analyzed 9,557 Korean Sign Language(KSL) signs to investigate location and location constraints of KSL. The results are following. First, 46 locations and 47 location variants in KSL were found. This result reveal that types of locations of KSL are various more than previous studies’. Frequency of major locations area were 15 of head area, 12 of two hands relation area, 11 of torso area, 7 of arm area, 1 of neutral area. And minimal pairs, free variants, complementary distributions, and location appearance similarity(phonetic similarity) were also found in KSL locations. Second, there were location articulation constraints when single sign’s location change in KSL signs. If single sign’s first location is articulated in any 4 major location area(head, torso, arm, hand), last location is articulated in same major location area. And middle space of first location and last location in single sign was not a location or a variant but articulatory process. And location was restricted to 2 location in most single sign.

This study aims to examine the effects of self-resilience and the moderating effects of social support in order to promote school life adjustment of students with physical disabilities, and to prepare the ground for special education and social welfare practice. To achieve these purposes, an analysis \was made based on survey data with students with physical disabilities. T-test, and ANOVA was performed so as to investigate levels of school life adjustment depending on general characteristics of those surveyed, and a hierarchical regression analysis was made to test the moderating effects of social support. Research findings indicate that firstly, the levels of school life adjustment by those surveyed were statistically significantly different depending on age, school types, residential types, disability types, or whether social welfare facilities were used. And secondly, it was found that the positive effects of self-resilience on school life adjustment by students with physical disabilities were significant, and that the moderating effects of social support were significant in relation to the effects of self-resilience on school life adjustment. Based on these results, conclusions and suggestions were provided in order to promote school life adjustment by students with physical disabilities.

The purpose of this study was to compare the special class teachers’ perception toward deaf culture and multiculture. 400 special class teachers, hearing impaired students were studying, who were teaching at regular school in the level of elementary, middle, and high school were participated for this study. The questionnaire was constructed with 60 questions, and analyzed with factor analysis. Factor analysis, t test, correlation, and regression were utilized for this study. The results of this study were that: (a) the background factors such as age and teaching experiences were important to decide the perception toward deaf and multicluture. It meaned that younger special class teachers kept more positive perception rather than those of the older special class teachers. And the special class teachers indicated positive perception toward deaf culture; (b) the special class teachers indicated negative perception toward deaf culture; and (c) the special class teachers indicated more positive perception toward deaf culture rather than those of the multiculture. This study suggested that how to increase the special class teachers’ positive perception toward deaf culture and multiculture.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of story map strategy instruction on reading comprehension achievement of students with reading disabilities. The participants were three 3rd grade children with reading disabilities who were enrolled in a public elementary school in Seoul. The AB design was repeatedly employed across three participants. According to the results, all three participants’ reading comprehension average scores significantly increased upon the implementation of the intervention. Furthermore, the reading comprehension average scores during the maintenance were close to those of the intervention phase. These findings provided evidence that the story map strategy instruction was an effective intervention to improve reading comprehension of students with reading disabilities. The summary of the results and limitations of this study were discussed.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of individualized positive behavior support(PBS) on the problem behaviors of a student with mental retardation in special school. In this study, the functional behavior analysis(FBA) through the review of school records, the interview with people related with the student and direct observation using video recording led to the hypothesis of antecedent and triggering events of the target behavior (i.e., out-of-seat behavior) in student’s natural setting, which is a classroom. Multiple baseline design across settings were utilized as a single subject design. For data collection, partial-interval recording was used for measuring the target behavior. The results of this study were as follows; First PBS was effective to decrease the out of seat behavior across three settings. Second, the effects of PBS were maintained one weeks after intervention. In conclusion, this study indicated that individualized positive behavior support through the cooperation of the PBS team was effective to decrease the target student’s problem behaviors. Implications of suggestion and discussion to practice for future research were described.

One hundred forty mothers who raise adolescents with autism between the ages of 13 and 19 participated in this study. This study examined the following four parts: (1) Difference in parenting stress between the group of mothers who responded with feelings of guilt towards their adolescents with autism and the other group who expressed that they never felt feelings of guilt; (2) Among the mothers who responded “Yes” to the previous question, difference in parenting stress between the group reporting that feelings of guilt interfered with their ability to provide effective parenting for their children and the other group who responded the opposite; (3) Aspects of feelings of guilt; and (4) Relationships between parenting stress and three different levels of feelings of guilt. The independent samples t test, descriptive analyses, one-way ANOVA, multiple regression analysis, and post hoc analyses were used for data analysis. Statistically significant difference in parenting stress for the two groups for the first part was withdrawn in this study. There was not any statistically significant difference found between the two groups of mothers reporting that feelings of guilt ever / never interfered with their ability to provide effective parenting for their children. A few methods to reduce the mothers’ parenting stress and feelings of guilt were proposed in the discussion.

The purpose of this study is to understand the level of conflicts existing within school for the blind and coping strategies which teachers with visual impairments use and by analyzing the differences in background variables. A summary of the results of the investigation follows. First, the extent of the conflict for the teachers with visual impairments has an average rating. Among the conflicts study, the parent factor accounts for the highest ratings. The results of individual factor ratings show that female teachers score a higher conflict rating, National public school teachers rate higher in conflicts particularly relating to student and parent factors. Teachers with less teaching experience rate higher than teachers with much experience. Teachers who use Braille experience more conflict than teachers who use the general print. Second, the as to the methods of conflict response, it was revealed that teachers with visual impairments use cooperation, compromise, and acceptance. According to the background variables, the survey finds that the national and public school teachers use avoidance and acceptance, whereas the private school teachers use cooperation and compromise.

Computational science is in the spotlight as a new discipline of information science technology with rapid advance of computer technology. It is a field that solves various problems from humanities, social science, natural science and engineering using numerical method and computational calculation. To train experts in computational science area, opportunities for students to be exposed to that area should be secured. Especially, experts with hearing impairment are in need considering accessibility to and their preference for information science technology. Based on these significance, this study developed, implemented and evaluated Inclusive Computational Science Camp Program applying CIPP model. We tried to analyze pros and cons of the program so that those factors could be considered in further studies. The contents of the camp program consisted of lectures, team projects, active learning, and games referring to earlier studies regarding science camps. The program was face-validated by five computational science experts who participated in the development process. It was implemented as a form of camp providing room and board for two days and one night during summer vacation. After the implementation, evaluation data were collected from 111 students (13 with disabilities, 85 without disabilities, and 13 college student mentors) and 20 staffs. The evaluation process was composed of context evaluation, input evaluation, process evaluation, and product evaluation according to CIPP model, and divided by two parts for students and staffs. The four evaluation parts were analyzed, and some implications were provided for further studies of Inclusive Computational Science Camp Program.

The purpose of this study was to investigate how mothers of children with disabilities perceive their own happiness level, to offer information enhancing the quality of life of mothers and their children with disabilities, and to explore ways to support them. To this ends, mothers of children with disabilities were required to complete the questionnaire consisting of 3 domains; existence, relatedness and growth. Then data were used to examine the perception of happiness and to compare the happiness level according to mothers’ personal background. Results were as follows. First, mothers’ perception of happiness was more or less positive and, in particular, showed the highest level in relatedness domain. Also mothers perceived their present happiness level lower than the importance level of happiness. Second, there were statistically significant differences in the following variables: mother’s level of education, employment status and classification of their children’s disabilities.

The purpose of this study is to suggest the way of instructional strategies, in which is expected to cause the high accomplishment in the reading comprehension improvement of elementary students with reading disabilities. To do this end, 23 intervention studies that were related to reading comprehension strategies were selected. The results were meta-analyzed by using CMA (Comprehensive Meta Analysis) 2.0 version program. To evaluate the effect of the instructional strategies used in each study, a total of 24 Hedges’s g values were calculated. The overall mean effect size for all studies was 2.83, so the effect was proved to be very positive and effective. Research strategies are divided into four areas - Predicting strategy, Elaboration strategy, Organization strategy and Comprehension-monitoring strategy in accordance with Seo(2001)’s category. Organization strategy was proved to be the most effective instruction method. Moderator analysis showed that variables such as study design, reading level, the number of intervention per week, measurement tool influenced on the effect size. There was no difference in effect size according to student’s year. However, studies on students who was fallen over 1.5 years behind their age in academic reading performance is more effective. In condition of intervention, studies which conducted 1-2 times per week had more effective than the others. In terms of the number of total intervention and place, there was no meaningful difference. And studies with modified and complemented measurement tools had bigger effect size than with curriculum-based measurement tools.

The purpose of this article is to study the status of Nepal’s existing inclusive education policy and implementation process. As Nepal’s research and current report show that inclusive educational practice is not being satisfactorily implemented. It is so because of the absence of support services, relevant materials, adequately qualified special education teachers, funding as well as structures and systems. Until both concepts and policies are expressed clearly and accurately, meaningful implementation of inclusive education will remain challenging. Based on the initial findings, it is suggested that the government of Nepal should revise teacher training programs, train all teachers in inclusive education methods, and improve the monitoring of education for all children.
