This paper suggests that primarily the reality of Korean special education should be constructed throughout establishment of subject education for students with disabilities. As an attempt of realizing the above suggestion, the following three issues were discussed. First, current Korean special education has great confusion in terms of understanding subject education for students with disabilities. That is, subject education for students with disabilities has been mistakenly understood as therapeutic education for compensating disabilities of students and/or curriculum activities in spite of its conceptual and phenomenal difference. Second, for establishing subject education for students with disabilities competency and quality of special education teachers are considered as important components. In fact, special education teachers build the ethical meaning of subject education for students with disabilities. Therefore, establishing subject education for students with disabilities is an attempt of restoring (constructing) the essentials of education, which is finally the third discussing issue. In order to be ‘education among education,’ Korean special education should strongly connect the networks among education essentials- theory of teacher education-theory of subject education.

As the current paradigm of the welfare of the disabled has been changed to focus on a consumer viewpoint to respect the right of self-determination, this study was made to analyze financial literacy of people with visual impairment through the case study method. As a result, five categories have been drawn in this study with ten sub categories and forty one meaningful units relating to the five categories, respectively: barriers to economic activity and the weariness of a working life, activity support services to help achieve independent living, limited communication and difficulty of problem-solving, barriers to information access and burdens of cost, and handling difficult financial transactions and consumer activities. Above mentioned categories were replaced into two categories. The one was for contextual understanding of financial literacy of people with visual impairment. The other was constrained factors of it. Lastly, this study showed that time and support were not enough in increase financial literacy and to exercise the right of self-determination for people with visual impairment, although they have been utilizing personal assistant service for financial task as well as activities of daily living.

The purpose of this study was to develop Korean Friendship Expectation Scale. The students participated for this scale development are 3rd, 6th students in primary school and 3rd students in middle school. For this research, literature review was first done to develop preliminary categories and their items. Then, through open survey from 325 students, 2,679 statements were collected. These data were the main source for scale development. After 2 stage coding procedures and content validity test preliminary scale(64items) was developed. From 1,027 students, main survey data were collected and employed exploratory factor analysis for final scale. Finally the Korean Friendship Expectation Scale consisted of 3 factors and 21 items was developed. The authors provided information about reliability and validity data. This scale can be utilized for friendship related investigation of general students and has implication for social inclusion of students with disabilities in inclusive school environment(for example, a part of evaluation index for social inclusion). Finally, the authors provided some discussions, limitations and suggestions for future research.

Recently, there are some domestic and foreign studies about science education for disabled students. However, there are no specific studies and action plans for physically challenged students. In this study, we investigated the real conditions of science inquiry activities in formal science class and needs of physically challenged students, regular students, and some of special education teacher and regular teachers. After doing a survey, we analyzed practical science inquiry activities of science and needs based on the survey from teachers and students in 8 special schools for physically challenged students and 10 regular schools. Survey results indicated that there are less science inquiry activities of science in the special school for physically challenged students than in the regular schools. Also, activities usually take place at the laboratories in the regular schools, but, in the special schools, most of activities perform in the regular classrooms. When compared in the regular schools, there are less proper science tools and educational materials prepared in the special schools. Also survey showed that, the science inquiry activities of science does not take place considering of student’s needs and characteristic. Physically challenged middle school students answered that they relatively do not participate actively and they are not relatively satisfied with the places and facilities of science inquiry activities of science than regular students did. While teachers in the regular schools answered fostering experts of science inquiry activities of science and changing class schedules as needs of science inquiry activities of science, teachers in the special schools for physically challenged students said experimental equipment for physically challenged students should be developed. As a result of this study, we could diagnose the real conditions of science inquiry activities of science that physically challenged students are relatively alienated than regular students. Also, this will be a basic material for development of meaningful science study plans and materials.

The present study purposed to survey teachers’ perception of best practice in transition. For this study, we surveyed 325 teachers at 91 special schools for intellectual disabilities children throughout the country concerning their percep -tion of best practice in transition. Data on teachers’ perception level were analyzed through descriptive statistics, t-test, F-test in order to compare importance and performance level, perception according to teachers’ back -ground variables. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, the importance of best practice in transition was perceived high by the teachers at special school for intellectual disabilities children, but the performance of best practice in transition was perceived relatively low. Perception on importance was high for social and personal skills development and training, functional, life-skills curriculum, and community-based instruction, business and industry linkages with schools and perception on performance was high for social and personal skills development and training, functional, life-skills curriculum, and community-based instruction, career and vocational assessment and education. In addition, Perception on importance was very low for career and vocational assessment and education, and perception on performance was very low for competitive paid work experience. Second, the teachers’ perception was different according to their sex, experience, qualification, organization and training in charge. Best practice in transition suggested in this study are items for executing transition education in school. In addition, they can be utilized as materials for developing transition education and tools applicable in the field of school education.

The purpose of this study is to provide an aspect of how to create an independent, highly qualified, and proficient national curriculum for students with Health Impairment of general schools. In order to achieve this efficiently, the teacher’s perception on the curriculum management of students with Health Impairment of general schools is considered; creating a basic data for future groundwork. The conclusion for this study was prudently reached by distributing and collecting surveys from of general teachers and special teachers who teach students with Health Impairment in four disparate metropolitan cities and five ordinary ones. First, the instructers claimed the importance and demand on the curriculum management of students with Health Impairment, which mainly consists of five major areas: the content, management and means on the curriculum management, sufficient support, medical alliance, and handbook for teachers. Secondly, the work experience, type of class, and time of career on students with Health Impairment had a minimum effect on the perception, which was verified by statistical data. Nevertheless, distinctive gaps were displayed by the teacher’s gender and experience on related training. Therefore, this thesis implies the importance for various developments on curriculum, management on appropriate course related to health and academic skill, and adequate role for the teachers.

This research was performed to investigate if there exists the frequency difference between the reading fluency and the reading error patterns by the reading difficulty targeted at the adult clutterers and the normal adults. For the predictive cluttering inventory(PCI), 10 adult clutterers and 37 normal adults were selected. It was divided into the difficult text and the easy text by the reading difficulty. It was analized with the same 93 word- lever. Firstly, in the reading fluency, the cluttering group showed more significant difference of the frequency of error in the easy text than in the difficult text. Secondly, in the case of the cluttering group, the error scores showed more significant difference of the frequency of error in the easy text. Thirdly, in the reading error pattern, the repetition errors highly appeared in the both groups. In the deletion errors, the cluttering group most highly appeared but the normal group showed the lowest freguency. Fourthly, in the case of the cluttering group, the deletion errors showed more significant difference of the frequency of error in the easy text. Therefore, this study can be utilized as fundamental data to examine the reading characteristics of the clutterers and develop the treatment program through awareness of clutterers afterwards.

The purpose of this study was to examine whether psychomotor interven -tion using Self-Talk intervention increases the motor imitation and the spontaneous language behavior of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. For this purpose, three children with ASD were selected in child care centers and participated totally in 32 sessions, 50 minutes per session. A multiple prove baseline design has been used among the subjects and the video record per session was encoded to words, which were defined by operant definition, by researchers and two teachers. The results was that Psychomotor Intervention have effects on facilitating motor imitation and spontaeous language behaviors. The advantages psycho -motor intervention has, such as fun, nature atmosphere, and spontaneous participation may be regarded as effective factors. Furthermore, self-talk may acted on facilitating the children’ praxis function. In addition, the further research will be needed to know whether or not motor imitation and spontaeous language behaviors shown in autism spectrum disorders may increase in spontaneous environment.

The aim of this study is to research the model development of the effective language education system for hearing impaired students. The results of the study are as followings: The first, it is found that there are not any guidelines for the effective method of the language education for hearing impaired students at the level of the government. The second, it is investigated that the deaf schools generally teach the Korean sign language (KSL) and Korean language by their own education plans, but the oral reading education school and all the other general schools don’t teach KSL throughout the country. The third, it’s believed that the sign languages are the deaf’s mother languages for the Deaf throughout the world. The fourth, the guideline at the level of the government for the effect of the language education for hearing impaired students is needed and wanted as followings: ① the bilingual education system, ② the detail system and programs of the language education for hearing impaired students at the level of each of deaf schools, ③ the professional qualities and the feeling of royal summons as a teacher and principal of the deaf school, ④ the professional personnels of the offices and departments for the education of hearing impaired students, ⑤ setting up the teacher’s education courses for hearing impaired students and sign language courses in the universities, ⑥ the functions of the researching the professional effective methodologies of the deaf education, deaf studies/culture and sign language at the level of the government, ⑦ and education and events for developing and activating the various Deaf cultures to make the Deaf have their own identities and upgrade the qualities of their deaf educations including the language education.

The purpose of this study was to investigate high school teachers of special classes of students with special needs further study to identify and guidance the implementation of the status and recognition, college decided to analyze the impact of variables that were aimed to let. To this end, the installation of high school special education class series, pathways to the recognition and status guidance, college guidance variables affecting the decision of students receiving special education and socioeconomic status variables affect university guidance study how the problem was set. This study investigated issues are resolved through research studies, high school special education students, most of the pathways guidance is being conducted, and special education teachers are responsible for further study due to lack of expertise, they had difficulty. Further study of high school special education students around the guidance be made in a special education teacher and high school students since the first grade or second grade should be continued further study guidance. In addition, high school special education class of students to determine the factors that affect college students ‘academic abilities, economic circumstances, the student’s hopes, the student’s disability type and degree, job prospects, in order to influence parents’ hopes were analyzed. And depending on the economic status of students Sahwa factors that influence students’ academic performance and economy over were analyzed. Therefore, further study of high school special education students for the demands of the higher education guidance zoom depending on guidance systematic and continuous further study should be carried out pathways to a special class teachers for teaching professional who can provide information and knowledge must be expanded training and Further study of high school special education students in order to determine the direction in which you can cultivate the ability of students go on to guidance should be provided.

This research analyzed 9,557 Korean Sign Language(KSL) signs to investigate handshape of KSL. The results are following. First, 69 handshapes and 11 variants in KSL were found. This result reveal that KSL has many handshapes more than foreign sign languages because KSL handshapes are more iconic than foreign sign language and KSL has many foreign signs and neologism. And minimal pairs, free variants, complementary distributions, and handshape appearance similarity(phonetic similarity) were also found in KSL handshapes. Second, high frequent handshapes were in order 9, 1, fist, place, open hand, 5, beak, 10, phone, 6 handshape and low frequent handshapes were manual number types, English manual alphabet types, neologism handshapes. Third, nondominant hand handshape of two different handshape were 28, and among them low frequent and iconic handshapes were also found quite many. This facts mean that KSL unmarked handshape analysis criterion include frequency of handshape, acquisition handshape of Deaf early childhood, error analysis of KSL beginner, comfort of sign articulation. For the next study, generative phonological handshape study and studies on orthography and sequences of handshapes are necessary to make KSL dictionary based on cheremes.

The purpose of this study was to diagnose students with math learning disabilities and to know the effect on math learning achievement of students with math under-achievement by applying S-RTI model. For this study 166 students with 2-grade and 154 students with 3-grade were employed and divided 2 groups(experimental and control group). The results of this study were as follows: First, in the prevalence rate of math learning disabilities, the experimental group was lower than control group. So S-RTI model was positively effective on decrease of the prevalence rate of learning disabilities. Next, in math calculation ability, the performance level and progress level of students with math under-achievement were higher than math learning disabilities. Second, in the math learning achievement of students with math under-achievement, the average achievement of experimental group was higher than control group. So S-RTI model was positively effective on math learning achievement of students with math under-achievement. According to these results, S-RTI model will be effectively used to diagnose students with math learning disabilities and to teach students with math under-achievement in the school.

The purpose of this study is to look at the a tense understanding ability of 15 mildly intellectually disabled children and 15 normal children whose linguistic age ranges from 6 to 7 through an assignment on understanding tenses, an important aspect of a time concept. The study result is as follow: First, mildly intellectually disabled children showed a lower ability to understand tenses than normal children. Second, when taking a look at the suggestion availability of time adverbs and an ability to understand tenses, mildly intellectually disabled children showed a lower ability to understand tenses than normal children. Third, mildly intellectually disabled children showed a lower execution level than normal children, but both groups followed a similar tense development process. Fourth, when time adverbs are suggested, tense understanding showed a statistically significant difference. However, when they were not suggested, tense understanding did not show a statistically significant difference. In conclusion, as for tense understanding with the availability of suggested tense adverbs, mildly intellectually children generally showed a lower execution ability than normal children, but both groups’ development order indicated a similar order. Therefore, we expect that it would be effective to teach tenses starting from past → present → future, a similar order for normal children. Also, both normal children and mildly intellectually disabled children understood tenses better when time adverbs were suggested. Therefore, suggesting time adverbs for understanding 경도 지적장애아동과 일반아동의 시제이해 비교 연구 tenses would be of help.

The objective of this paper is to observe the inclusive education in Japan through the perspective of Special Support Education system to define characteristics, present conditions, and assignments, and also to produce applications for Korea. To achieve the objective, I studied the characteristics of international trend on the inclusive education and compared the major details of system reform of Special Support Education in Japan to the international trend. Assignments for the Japanese inclusive education was stated and at the same time, the current condition of the inclusive education in Japan was provided by analyzing the present condition of system modification for Special Support Education in general schools, the reality of exchange and group study, and the concept of recently announced ‘continuity of various places for learning for the compulsory education course of Japan.’ Based on these, applications for Korea were proposed.

The present study investigated the subgroups’ linguistic differences in poor readers, - phonological, semantic, syntactic and text level comprehension. By the ‘Simple View of Rreading’, poor readers were classified into reading subgroups depending on the deficit of decoding and language comprehension. In this study, 96 poor readers in the elementary school were classified into three reading subgroups: dyslexia, specific comprehension deficit, and mixed reading disabilities. To investigate the level of abilities in phonological aspects, we tested phonological awareness, verbal working memory, and rapid automatized naming (RAN). The level of ability in semantic aspects was tested on the receptive vocabulary. For syntactic aspects, we tested sentence comprehension. Finally, we tested the level of text comprehension. The results are as follows; The subgroups of poor readers were not different in the levels of verbal working memory and rapid automatized naming(RAN). However, the subgroups were significantly different in the levels of phonological awareness, receptive vocabulary and text comprehension.
